                                                                          Fox

Foxes in Oklahoma are active all year

Foxes are considered as a nuisance predator animal

The most common calls we get are :

                   *Fox seen in neighbor hood

                   * Foxes nesting under deck or shed

                   *Fox killed dog or cat

Fox populations are on the rise in Oklahoma City and surrounding city's, they have been reported in :

Oklahoma City, Nichols Hills, Bethany , Warr Acres , Lake Hefner , Edmond , Piedmont , Deer Creek, Yukon , Mustang , Midwest City , Moore , Norman.

   Biology

Foxes are identifiable by their orange reddish fur on their back side and head,  white under their neck and chest,

a long busy tail tipped white,  pointed black ears and black legs and feet.

Length up to 36"

Height up to 20"

Weight up to 30lbs

Very good eyesight , excellent hearing and sense of smell.

Red Foxes usually mate between January - March , sometimes as late as May.

They give birth to kits about 60 days later.

Average litter size 4-6,  sometimes up to 10

The male fox brings the female food while she cares for the Kits.

The Kits start playing outside the den when they are about 4 weeks old.

The kits will leave their mother when they are about 7 months old

Life span in the wild is about 5 - 10 years.

   Habit

Foxes are successful surviving in the city environments, and around the presence of people, because of their adaptable behavior.

Foxes are mostly nocturnal although they will venture out during the daytime hours.

Unlike other mammals foxes hear low frequency sounds very well, they can hear rodents and small animals digging under ground and will dig to catch its prey.

fox also stalks its prey similar like a cat ,  it gets close as it can then pounces and chases its prey.

The fox usually don't use a den,  breeding females will find a suitable den site to raise her young.

They will sleep in the open, when they do use a den they will find shelter under a shed , or deck, abandoned home, Brush piles, or use a den previously used by another animal.

   What do they eat ?

Red Foxes are opportunistic Omnivores, They will eat almost anything such as :

Rats , Mice , Birds , Squirrels , Rabbits , Insects , Crayfish , Moles , Gophers , Dogs , Cats , Chickens , Fruits , Berries , Grasses , Dog food , Cat food , Dead animals , trash.....

The Red Fox will continue to hunt even when its full, They will store extra food under leaves , snow , dirt.

What diseases do they carry ?

Distemper , Parvo virus , Mange , Rabies , Tularemia , are the most common diseases.

They also carry numerous parasites such as Ticks , Fleas , Mites , Heart worms , worms.

How do you catch or remove them ?

My advice is to hire a Licensed professional with many years experience handling foxes and knows their habits and biology.
